1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible
Lot 2052 | West Palm Beach
Chassis No. 194676S125881
Car and Driver asked the question of the 1966 L79 Corvette: “You aren't suggesting that it's one of the best GT cars in the world. Or are you?” Chevrolet introduced the 427 cu-in Corvettes that year, and those sixties supercars captured all the headlines. But quite possibly the finest all-around Corvette in '66 was like this convertible, powered by the optional L79 350 hp 327 cu-in engine. With 50 hp more than standard, the power is exhilarating without being excessive, and that wonderful 49%/51% front-to-rear weight distribution is maintained, something the heavier 427 lost. Add the butter-smooth M20 four-speed manual and four-wheel disc brakes, and this is a true driving delight. This convertible is finished in Code 982 Mosport Green as from the factory – just 11.9% were ordered in this light silver-green hue – and the metallic paint accents the Sting Ray's aquatic-inspired shape beautifully. It is equipped with matching leather seats, tinted glass, power windows, modern gold-line tires on factory alloy knock-off wheels, and, as per consignor, it is numbers-matching. It also features the optional U69 AM/FM radio, but with the eight-cylinder symphony emanating from the factory N14 side-mounted exhaust, who would listen in? A wonderful opportunity in a rare color, this is a special chance to own one of the best GT cars in the world from the sixties.
