The Lotus Esprit V8 Sport 350 arrived in 1999 as the ultimate expression of Colin Chapman's iconic design, with production limited to just 50 examples manufactured between 1999 and 2001. True to Chapman's lightweight engineering philosophy, the Sport 350 achieved impressive performance through significant weight reduction—85 kilograms lighter than the V8 GT on which it was based—thanks to its lightweight bodyshell and special magnesium Crono OZ wheels. Performance was further enhanced with larger AP Racing discs and four-piston calipers at the front, while handling benefited from Monroe 65 dampers, stiffer springs, and an uprated anti-roll bar.

Finished exclusively in Lotus Aluminium Metallic, the Sport 350 was immediately identifiable by its carbon fiber GT1-style rear wing, distinctive door graphics, and bespoke interior featuring Black bolsters with Blue Alcantara inserts and complementary blue accents throughout the cabin and engine bay. With 350 horsepower delivered by the 3.5-liter flat-plane crank twin-turbo V8, the Sport 350 dispatched the sprint to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds en route to a top speed of 282 km/h—making it one of the most formidable and exclusive British sports cars of its era.

Supplied new by Kumschick, the official Swiss Lotus dealer at a cost of 135,900 Swiss Francs, this left-hand-drive Lotus Esprit V8 Sport 350 is offered complete with its original order form and subsequent new car invoice from 1999. These documents show that the car was delivered with factory equipment including sports exhaust, chrome exhaust tips, CD radio, and climate control, and was first registered on 18 June 1999 to Herr Wolf G. Thieme of Regensdorf, Switzerland. Extensive service records chronicle consistent maintenance in Thieme's ownership from 1999-2015. This included a professional engine overhaul in 2004 at approximately 40,000 kilometers, while the brakes and suspension were upgraded with H&R springs and additional instrumentation was installed in the center console for oil pressure and temperature monitoring. Following an engine failure in 2006 at approximately 51,000 kilometers, a second comprehensive overhaul was performed, this time incorporating significant performance upgrades at a cost of 18,211€.

These thoughtfully executed upgrades included the installation of a sport intercooler, sports exhaust, and sports differential, along with reinforcement of the gearbox to accommodate increased torque output beyond the factory 400 nm output. In 2009, the engine tuning was further refined, resulting in the current impressive specification that delivers 418 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 522 nm at 4,000 rpm—figures verified by dyno testing in 2022. Under current ownership since 2015, the most recent comprehensive service was completed in 2021 which included the replacement of the timing belt, followed by a recent technical inspection in 2025 in preparation for the sale.

One of only 50 examples produced, this Sport 350 combines the pinnacle of Esprit exclusivity with thoughtful performance and reliability upgrades. With its two-owner, well-documented history, it offers its third owner a thoroughbred British sports car with exceptional capabilities and impeccable rarity.

Presentata nel 1999, la Lotus Esprit V8 Sport 350 rappresenta l’evoluzione definitiva del celebre modello progettato da Colin Chapman. Realizzata in soli 50 esemplari tra il 1999 e il 2001, la Sport 350 incarnava perfettamente la filosofia costruttiva Lotus, fondata sulla ricerca della leggerezza per massimizzare le prestazioni. Rispetto alla Esprit V8 GT da cui deriva, la Sport 350 pesa ben 85 kg in meno, grazie a una carrozzeria alleggerita e ai cerchi in magnesio OZ Crono. Le performance erano ulteriormente migliorate grazie a freni maggiorati con dischi AP Racing e pinze a quattro pistoncini all’anteriore, mentre l’assetto beneficiava di ammortizzatori Monroe 65, molle irrigidite e barra antirollio rinforzata.

Realizzata esclusivamente nella tinta Lotus Aluminium Metallic, la Sport 350 si distingue esteticamente per l’ala posteriore in carbonio ispirata alla GT1, le grafiche sulle portiere e l’abitacolo personalizzato con sedili in pelle nera e inserti in Alcantara blu, presenti anche nei dettagli dell’abitacolo e del vano motore. Il motore V8 biturbo da 3,5 litri con albero piatto erogava 350 CV, permettendo uno 0-100 km/h in soli 4,7 secondi e una velocità massima di 282 km/h - numeri che la ponevano tra le più prestazionali sportive britanniche dell’epoca.

Consegnata nuova dal Kumschick, il concessionario ufficiale Lotus per la Svizzera, ad un prezzo di 135.900 Franchi Svizzeri, questa Sport 350 con guida a sinistra è accompagnata dal modulo d’ordine originale e dalla fattura di acquisto del 1999. La documentazione attesta che l’auto fu ordinata con scarico sportivo, terminali cromati, radio CD e climatizzatore, ed immatricolata il 18 giugno 1999 a nome del primo proprietario, Herr Wolf G. Thieme di Regensdorf, Svizzera. Un ricco dossier testimonia una manutenzione costante tra il 1999 e il 2015, incluso un intervento professionale di revisione motore eseguito nel 2004 a circa 40.000 km. In questa fase vennero inoltre aggiornati i freni e l’assetto con molle H&R e venne installata una strumentazione supplementare per il controllo di pressione e temperatura dell’olio. A seguito di un guasto al motore nel 2006, a circa 51.000 km, fu eseguita una seconda revisione completa, questa volta con significativi upgrade prestazionali per un valore di 18.211€.

Tra queste modifiche figurano l’intercooler sportivo, lo scarico sportivo, il differenziale sportivo e il rinforzo del cambio per gestire una coppia superiore ai 400 Nm di serie. Nel 2009, la messa a punto del motore venne ulteriormente affinata, portando la vettura alla configurazione attuale, capace di erogare 418 CV a 6.400 giri/min e 522 Nm a 4.000 giri/min — valori certificati da un test al banco prova eseguito nel 2022. Comprata dall’attuale proprietario nel 2015, questa Sport 350 ha beneficiato di un importante intervento di manutenzione nel 2021, con la sostituzione della cinghia di distribuzione, ed è stata recentemente sottoposta a revisione tecnica nel 2025 in preparazione alla vendita.

Trattandosi di una dei soli 50 esemplari prodotti, questa Sport 350 rappresenta il vertice assoluto nella storia della Esprit, arricchito da upgrade sapientemente eseguiti in ottica di prestazioni ma anche di affidabilità. Forte di una storia documentata e di soli due proprietari, questa rara e affascinante sportiva inglese attende ora il suo terzo custode.
