The BMW M3, based on the popular E30 3-Series, was developed to meet FIA Group A touring car regulations, requiring 5,000 road-going versions. Debuting at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, it quickly became a success on the track and street, dominating touring car championships worldwide and becoming a fan favorite performance car.
Toward the end of the 1980s, a line of exclusive special edition M3s was created. Among them was 1989 BMW M3 Cecotto so named after Venezuelan racing legend Johnny Cecotto. The Venezuelan was a rare breed, as successful on two wheels as four and first known for his impressive career in motorcycle racing, including winning the 1975 350 cc World Championship at just 19. Later Cecotto transitioned to four-wheel racing, joining BMW in 1982 and later racing in Formula One with the Toleman team in 1984. After a crash that ended his Formula One career, Cecotto returned to BMW, achieving success in touring car racing, including the Italian Touring Car Championship in 1989.
Cecotto's special edition was available in three colors, Macao Blue, Misano Red, or Nogaro Silver. This example, serial number 354, is finished in Misano Red over a black leather BMW M-sports interior. The Cecotto M3 featured technical enhancements over the standard M3 as well, including a more powerful version of the “S14B23” 2.3-liter engine with 215-horsepower, and several subtle visual upgrades such as black BBS mesh wheels, thinner side and rear glass, a revised rear wing, and a color-matched valve cover. These cars were numbered with engraved placards, with only 505 units produced.
Today this highly collectible Cecotto E30 M3 is offered with just over 123,000 kilometers at the time of cataloging. Furnished with its first aid kit, a warning triangle, owner's manual, brochure, and trunk-mounted tool kit, this rarely seen special edition is a well-preserved example sure to fascinate not only BMW enthusiasts, but virtually any racing enthusiast of two wheels or four.

La BMW M3, basata sulla popolare serie 3 E30, è stata sviluppata per rispettare le normative FIA del Gruppo A per le auto da turismo, che richiedevano la produzione di 5,000 vetture stradali. Presentata al Salone dell'Automobile di Francoforte nel 1985, divenne rapidamente un successo sia in pista che su strada, dominando i campionati di auto da turismo in tutto il mondo e diventando una delle auto sportive preferite dagli appassionati.
Verso la fine degli anni '80, furono prodotte una serie di edizioni speciali esclusive della M3. Tra queste, la BMW M3 Cecotto del 1989, in onore della leggenda del motorsport venezuelano Johnny Cecotto. Pilota di rara versatilità, ottenne successi sia sulle due che sulle quattro ruote, divenendo noto per la sua impressionante carriera motociclistica che lo portò a vincere il Campionato Mondiale 350cc nel 1975 all’età di 19 anni. In seguito, Cecotto passò alle corse automobilistiche, entrando in BMW nel 1982 e successivamente correndo in Formula 1 con il team Toleman nel 1984. Dopo un brutto incidente che pose fine alla sua carriera in Formula 1, Cecotto tornò in BMW, ottenendo successi nelle corse turismo, vincendo anche il Campionato Italiano Turismo nel 1989.
L'edizione speciale Cecotto era disponibile in tre colori: Blu Macao, Rosso Misano e Grigio Nogaro. Questo esemplare, numero di serie 354, è verniciato in Rosso Misano con interni in pelle nera BMW M-sport. La M3 Cecotto presentava anche miglioramenti tecnici rispetto alla M3 standard, tra cui una versione potenziata del motore "S14B23" da 2,3 litri con 215 cavalli, e numerosi aggiornamenti estetici, come i caratteristici cerchi in lega neri BBS, vetri laterali e posteriori più sottili, uno spoiler posteriore rivisitato e un coperchio coprivalvole verniciato nello stesso colore della carrozzeria. Queste vetture erano numerate da targhette incise, e ne vennero prodotte solo 505.
Oggi, questa M3 Cecotto E30 è un oggetto da collezione, ed è offerta con poco più di 123.000 chilometri al momento dell’inserimento a catalogo. Completa di kit di primo soccorso, triangolo di emergenza, manuale uso e manutenzione, brochure e kit di attrezzi alloggiato nel cofano posteriore, questa edizione speciale, che raramente si vede in vendita, è un esemplare ben conservato che sicuramente affascinerà non solo gli appassionati BMW, ma praticamente qualsiasi amante delle corse, sia a due che a quattro ruote.
