The 1928-1933 Studebaker President Eight was the culmination of then-Studebaker president Albert Erskine's goal of engineering the finest automobile on American roads. Powered by an innovative 313 cubic inch straight-eight engine, later expanded to 337 cubic inches delivering up to 122 horsepower, the President outclassed the likes of Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Lincoln, and even Packard. Its nine-bearing crankshaft design, with pressurized oil passages drilled directly to each main bearing, provided superior lubrication and durability compared to the common five-bearing designs of competitors. This sophisticated powerplant also proved its mettle in competition, setting multiple land speed records and securing a pole position at the 1931 Indianapolis 500. The President Eight's dominance continued in 1932 when Studebaker cars achieved five top 16 finishes at Indy, followed by an even more impressive showing in 1933 where Studebaker-powered cars claimed eight of the fourteen finishing positions.

Among the array of stylish bodies available to dress the President Eight chassis, it was the Four-Season Convertible Roadster that Studebaker decided to replicate on a 2.5-to-1 scale to display at the Studebaker proving grounds, billing it as the “biggest car in the world.” The iconic 41-foot-long, 13.5-foot-tall replica was rendered in an elegant two-tone green, identical to the stunning Four-Season Convertible Roadster offered here. According to previous research, this exceptional 1931 Studebaker President Eight Four-Season Convertible Roadster underwent a comprehensive mechanical restoration in Woodland Hills, California in the early 1990s before being imported to Saskatchewan, Canada. After participating in numerous vintage events, the car received a cosmetic, body-off restoration in 2003 by renowned classic car specialist Glenn Hoff of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The car was re-finished in its original two-tone green with straw pinstriping, complemented by a new tan canvas top, green leather upholstery, and period-correct carpeting.

The car is presented with desirable period accessories including dual side-mount spares with hard covers, whitewall tires, wire wheels, a body-color trunk rack, Tiltray “Ovaloid” headlamps, dual horns, a green-upholstered rumble seat, golf bag door, and accessory step plates. Representing Studebaker's pinnacle achievement of the Classic Era, this example presents an exceptional opportunity for both CCCA touring and concours display. Cared for by the Academy of Art University Collection since 2006, this rare model offers its next custodian the distinction of owning one of the most significant Studebakers of the Classic period, likely to stand alone at any future gathering.
