After the Ford buy-out of Lincoln in 1922, Edsel Ford became President of the up-market Lincoln division. Edsel became very involved with styling decisions and made sure that subsequent Lincolns, including the Model K and L, were increasingly elegant. He also had a significant role in the stunning Zephyr of 1936, designed by 27-year-old Chief Stylist Eugene "Bob" Gregorie Jr. to have what he termed “Continental” styling. This European-influenced design ethos involved the use of waterfall-like grilles, long hoods, and short rear decks as seen on the 1940 Lincoln-Zephyr Continental Cabriolet offered here. To this day, the streamlined styling of the Zephyr is viewed by many as one of the most beautiful mass-produced American automobiles of all time.

According to a copy of its original production card provided by the Benson Ford Research Center, this exceptional Lincoln-Zephyr Continental Cabriolet was assembled on 27 May 1940. The car was originally finished in striking Capri Blue with a Tan top over a Red leather interior, and was factory equipped with a radio, antenna, stone deflector, and Firestone tires. While much of the car's subsequent early history remains undocumented, badges mounted to the front license plate frame attest to a successful show field career including an AACA Senior National First Prize in 1995, CCCA National First Prize, and LCOC National Major Award. The car is now presented in a timeless silver exterior with a black canvas soft top, complemented by red piping to match the red leather interior. Inside, the deep maroon-finished dashboard is neatly contrasted by decadent gold-toned switchgear, speaker grille, and bezels surrounding the beautiful Art Deco instrumentation. A clean and nicely detailed engine bay further emphasizes the excellent preservation of this older restoration.

Showing just over 1,500 miles on the odometer, likely since restoration, this final-year Lincoln-Zephyr V12 is poised for many more CCCA show appearances and tours. The car is accompanied by a 1940 Lincoln-Zephyr Reference Book and boot cover.
