Chassis No. 55WA13610H

A factory hot rod Lincoln? Forget the ponderous land yachts often produced by Ford's luxury division, in the first half of the fifties Lincoln boasted, “The first function of a fine car is outstanding performance.” Witness the 1952 Carrera Panamericana road race; Lincolns finished this marathon 1-2-3-4 in class. Next year? Exact same results. Later Lincolns carried on the tradition, but in 1955 power was increased to 225 hp from its 341 cu-in V8. The '55s also featured refreshed style, especially in the top Capri model, yet remained pleasingly tasteful. In an automotive world where excess was becoming the rule, the 1955 Capri stood out. Even movie star Marilyn Monroe noticed; the “King of Kustoms,” George Barris, created several customized pink Capri convertibles for her. This Capri has its own fabulous factory pastel shade, Code 27 Cashmere Coral with matching Coral and White Leather interior and white top. It has received extensive mechanical work to keep it driving wonderfully, including rebuilding the original engine and transmission, yet carries the soft patina of age with grace. Lincoln advertising described the 1955 Capri, “For those who are never satisfied with the ordinary.” Just like Marilyn.
