It was only fitting that Porsche chose the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed to debut the GT2 RS, touted as “the fastest and most powerful road-going 911 in history.” Based on the 991.2 platform, the hardcore GT2 RS was indeed a celebration of speed. The 700-PS rear-drive-only GT2 RS proved its purpose by vanquishing Nürburgring production car records of the day with a time of 6 minutes 47.3 seconds—an astonishing ten seconds faster than Porsche's own 918 Spyder hypercar.

This 2018 example takes the GT2 RS concept to the extreme with the addition of the weight-reducing Weissach package, paired with the track day oriented Clubsport Package, which adds six-point harnesses, fire extinguisher, and preparation for a battery master switch. The Weissach Package and Clubsport Package combine to hone the GT2 RS into a formidable track day weapon—one sharpening performance by reducing weight, the other focusing on track preparedness and driver safety.
