2016 Bentley Mulsanne EWB Ex-Queen Elizabeth II
Lot 121 | Global Icons: Zoute Online 2026 Wednesday, 14 October 2026
Chassis No. SCBAM83Y1HC002801
Introduced as Bentley's flagship saloon, the Mulsanne carried forward Crewe's tradition of building each car largely by hand, its 6.8-liter V8 and extended-wheelbase cabin making it the natural choice for generations of Bentleys pressed into Royal service. First registered to Bentley Motors Ltd., Pyms Lane, Crewe, on 4 October 2016, this particular Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase was one of only two examples built for Queen Elizabeth II. Its time in active Royal service ended when a newer sister Mulsanne was delivered to Her Majesty, at which point this car returned to Bentley's Crewe headquarters. It remained under Bentley's custodianship until the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Bentley then chose to keep that newer sister car within its own fleet, making this the only Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase used by the Queen to enter a private collection.
Prepared by Bentley's Press & Special Vehicles Department, the car received a series of bespoke features tailored to Royal use, including a rear cabin trimmed in Twine and Cumbrian Green leather, Burr Walnut veneers, and deep lambswool carpeting. The Royal Coat of Arms was inlaid into the Burr Walnut waistrails, and the front center armrests were replaced with a custom tray sized for the Queen's Launer London handbag, both details removed at the request of the Royal Mews when the car was decommissioned from Royal service. Registered DG66 OKM throughout its time in Royal use, there are numerous photos of the Queen with this car during countless official engagements. These events included British Champions Day, the Centenary of Government Communications Headquarters, the funeral of Countess Mountbatten of Burma, and the final occasion before it was returned when it was reported that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had given birth to Prince Archie of Sussex. The Mulsanne was then acquired by a private collection in March 2024 as a “Certified Pre-Owned Bentley,” and has continued to be maintained by Jack Barclay in current ownership. Since entering a private collection it has been honored with the Bentley Drivers Club Trophy at the Concours of Elegance, Hampton Court Palace, presented by Richard Charlesworth MVO, former Director of Royal and VIP Relations at Bentley Motors, along with the Bentley Drivers Club Summer Concours Class Award and the HR Owen Trophy, all in 2024.
With its sister car now held permanently within Bentley's Heritage Collection, this Mulsanne is the only one likely ever to reach private hands. Displaying approximately 6,000 miles at cataloging, it presents largely as it did in Royal service. Its stately presence and quiet elegance undimmed, it stands as a matchless piece of recent royal motoring history and, among modern Mulsannes, truly fit for a Queen.
