Introduced in 1967, Fiat 238 E was a highly modular minibus offered as an Italian alternative to the ubiquitous Volkswagen Type 2. The 238 E comfortably sat nine passengers, and still allowed for 415 kilograms of luggage when fully occupied. Its 1,221-cc inline-four was easily accessible underneath the passenger seat, allowing occupants to check fluids and change spark plugs if need be, without leaving the comfort of the spacious interior. The 238 E's versatile nature spawned several distinct variants, from the standard utilitarian panel van and flatbed iterations to a full camper setup.

This 1979 Fiat 238 E is the desirable Panorama variant, offering its nine occupants an upscale coach experience with sweeping views from within the cabin. Comfort is key in the Panorama, as indicated by its velour carpeted floors that provide enhanced noise and cold insulation. According to its Carta di Circolazione, this example was first registered in Italy on 6 June 1979 and is believed to have remained in the country until 2014. An accompanying Certificate of Ownership from the Automobile Club d'Italia shows that the car was deregistered for export in April of that year, whereupon it was registered in Salzburg, Austria in November. During this time, it was subject to an extensive restoration that included an engine rebuild, repaint, and undercarriage and interior cleaning—with invoices on file exceeding €21.000. The Fiat minibus was subsequently located in the Netherlands before being acquired by the German consignor in July 2023.

The minibus has since received consistent TÜV inspections and service work through Jorge Hildebrandt Farhzeugtechnik in Bremen. It is offered today with its original operating instructions as well as model brochures, a spare key, and a file of registration documentation and invoices documenting its recent ownership trail.
