Long regarded as one of Ford's most formidable touring car platforms, the Capri proved especially potent under FIA Group 1 regulations where showroom-based performance and race-bred durability converged. Famously campaigned to great effect by Ford factory driver Gordon Spice, the Mk III Capri became a dominant force in the British Touring Car Championship from the mid 1970s through the final season of the Group 1 class in 1981. With regulations mandating near-production specification, the handsomely equipped, high-performance Mk III Capri 3.0 S lent itself naturally to competition conversion.

Beginning life as a 1981 Ford Capri 3.0 S, this example has been transformed into a full Group 1 specification Capri by U.K.-based historic racing experts Jordan Racing Team (JRT), who has been building vintage racecars for historic motorsport events such as Goodwood Members Meeting and HSR Daytona for over a decade. JRT prepared this example for the consignor with no expense spared in early 2024 to compete in the Gordon Spice Trophy (previously the Gerry Marshall Trophy) — the fan-favorite British touring car event in the prestigious Goodwood Members' Meeting so-named for the 27-time winner in the British Touring Car Championship.

The Capri was fully stripped to its bare shell, which was then sent to motorsport paint experts Normandale to be finished in Strato Silver. JRT rebuilt the engine and transmission, comprehensively refreshed the rest of the Capri's mechanicals, and tested the born-again Capri at Turweston Aerodrome. Now up to Group 1 specification, this Capri raced at the 2024 Goodwood Members' Meeting in both the Gordon Spice Sprint and Trophy, where it was piloted in part by 2013 British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan.

This meticulously-prepared Ford Capri has only competed in three races since completion and is now offered with invoices from Jordan Racing Team totaling over £141,000 on file and available to review—encompassing its thorough race preparation, laundry list of spare parts, and most recent service in July 2025. After the car was photographed for sale, it was fitted with the correct Weber carburetors by JRT that are required for FIA compliance. Please note that the draft papers have been submitted and JRT has confirmed that the car will be sold with fresh 2026-issued FIA papers valid until 2036. It is further supplied with engine capacity certificates from both Masters Historic Racing and Motor Racing Legends issued in 2023.

Expertly rebuilt and already campaigned in multiple distinguished vintage racing events, it continues to be eligible for the Goodwood Members' Meeting as well as other prestigious motorsport celebrations such as the Motor Racing Legends Historic Touring Car Challenge.
