As good as the rest of the mid-1980s grand tourers were, Ferrari captured the decade's imagination with the Testarossa. More than a supercar, the Testarossa became a cultural touchstone, appearing on television, in arcade games, in music videos, and the driveways of the fortunate few.
Styled by Pininfarina, the Testarossa was a bold reinvention of the Berlinetta Boxer. To solve chronic cabin heat issues, Ferrari moved the radiators to the sides of the mid-mounted 4.9-liter, 180-degree twelve engine. Massive side intakes, veiled by horizontal strakes, both met regulatory requirements and defined the car's aesthetic. The result was an instantly recognizable silhouette that was simultaneously functional and extravagant. It epitomized 1980s excess while securing the Testarossa's legacy as one of Ferrari's most iconic creations.
Unveiled at the Lido Night-Club on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, amid the glitz and festivity of the Parisian nightlife in 1984, the Testarossa was originally fitted with a single exterior mirror, earning its early models the nickname “Monospecchio,” as well as a unique central wheel bolt—the “Monodado”—for securing the wheels.
Delivered new in Rosso Corsa with a Nero (Black) leather interior by Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, Germany, in July 1986, it belonged to the renowned fashion designer Otto Kern, whose second passion for automobiles was expressed both through his financial support of German Formula One drivers and through his own driving experiences as an amateur.
The current owner, the third in the car's history, has possessed it since 2009. In July 2025, this Testarossa underwent a major service at Modena Motorsport, including the replacement of the timing belts, installation of an ANSA exhaust, as well as work on the brake calipers, the injection system, and the fitment of new tires. The odometer shows 50,200 kilometers at the time of cataloging, documented by the original stamped service book that accompanies the car. It is also accompanied by its original tools and keys. Aussi performante que les autres grand-tourisme du milieu des années 1980, la Ferrari a su captiver l'imagination de la décennie avec la Testarossa. Bien plus qu'une simple supercar, la Testarossa est devenue un véritable symbole culturel, apparaissant à la télévision, dans les jeux d'arcade, les clips musicaux et dans les garages des rares privilégiés.
Signée Pininfarina, la Testarossa se présentait comme une réinvention audacieuse de la Berlinetta Boxer. Pour résoudre les problèmes chroniques de chaleur dans l'habitacle, Ferrari déplaça les radiateurs sur les flancs du moteur central de 4,9 litres à douze cylindres en V à 180 degrés. D'imposantes prises d'air latérales, dissimulées derrière des lames horizontales, répondaient aux exigences réglementaires tout en définissant l'esthétique de la voiture. Le résultat était là : une silhouette immédiatement reconnaissable, à la fois fonctionnelle et extravagante. Elle incarnait l'excès typique des années 1980 tout en lui assurant un statut d'icône parmi les créations les plus emblématiques de Ferrari.
Présentée au Lido Night-Club des Champs-Élysées à Paris, parmi les paillettes et la festivité des nuits parisiennes en 1984, la Testarossa était initialement équipée d'un seul rétroviseur extérieur, ce qui a valu à ses premiers modèles le surnom de Monospecchio, ainsi que d'un boulon central unique — le Monodado — pour le maintien des roues.
Livrée neuve en rouge avec un intérieur en cuir noir par Auto Becker à Düsseldorf, en Allemagne, en juillet 1986, elle appartenait au grand créateur de mode Otto Kern, dont la seconde passion, l'automobile, se manifestait autant par son soutien financier à des pilotes allemands de Formule 1 que par ses propres expériences au volant en tant qu'amateur.
Le propriétaire actuel, troisième détenteur, la possède depuis 2009. En juillet 2025, il lui a fait bénéficier d'un entretien majeur chez Modena Motorsport, incluant le remplacement des courroies de distribution, l'installation d'un échappement ANSA, ainsi qu'une intervention sur les étriers de frein, le système d'injection et l'installation de nouveaux pneus, dont la facture détaillée est disponible à la consultation.
