To give the Pininfarina Cabriolet the performance to match its Ferrari-inspired looks, Fiat paired the new 1959 1500 S with an OSCA-built, twin-cam 1.5-liter engine derived from the Maserati brothers' competition experience. Assembled by Pininfarina yet sold and badged as a Fiat, the OSCA-powered Cabriolets remained a rare offering, with period estimates suggesting that just 3,089 twin-cam examples were produced among 34,211 Cabriolets and Coupes built from 1959–1966.
The Cabriolet offered here, chassis number 9586, was purchased by the current Belgian caretaker from the Netherlands in May 2014 and has remained in long-term static storage since. Recently, the owner's in-house mechanic performed a careful start-up after years of standstill, including fresh fuel and fluids. The consigning Broad Arrow Car Specialist notes that the car starts and runs nicely today, though it would benefit from a thorough inspection and recommissioning prior to extensive road use.
Finished in a white exterior over a two-tone red and black interior, this OSCA Cabriolet presents with charming touches, including a wood dash fascia, wood-rimmed steering wheel, and push-button radio, complemented by a black soft top and tonneau cover. Offered with a spare engine, gearbox, and an assortment of additional parts including numerous body panels, it is a well-supported example for its next caretaker. Uncommon then as now, this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a beautifully-proportioned Italian roadster with OSCA-powered 160-km/h performance.
