After joining the mid-engined fray with the 365 GT/4 BB In 1973, Ferrari debuted the 365 Boxer's more refined successor, the 512 BB, three years later in 1976. Equipped with an enlarged version of the 180-degree twelve termed the F102 B, it introduced a new nomenclature where 512 referred to the car's 5.0-liter, 12-cylinder engine. The 512 BB retained the successful formula of the original Berlinetta Boxer while introducing minor styling enhancements to improve aerodynamics and engine cooling. Dry sump lubrication now prevented oil starvation under hard cornering, while a new dual plate clutch reduced pedal effort for a more livable overall driving experience.

In 1981, the final iteration of the 512 BB emerged as the 512 BBi—the lowercase “i” denoting fuel injection. Only 1,007 units of the 512 BBi were produced between 1981 and 1984, and this final fuel-injected series is considered to be the most livable Berlinetta Boxer with reclining seats, headrests, dual electric mirrors, air conditioning, power windows, and a stereo/graphic equalizer all being standard equipment. Although the Berlinetta Boxer was never officially sold in North America, this did not deter motivated enthusiasts from importing and federalizing Ferrari's latest flagship.

This outstanding left-hand-drive Ferrari 512 BBi, bearing chassis number 43937, was originally delivered via Autoexpò-Ora (Italy) in November 1982, rendered in the quintessential Boxer color of Rosso Corsa (300) Senza Stricsie Nere (without black lower bodywork), giving it a striking all-red scheme. The Ferrari was subsequently sold on 26 January 1983 through Auto-König in Munich to its first owner, F. Karl Griesheimer of Pfaffenhofen-Weiler, Germany, as recorded in its original warranty book. A plaque mounted in the driver's door jamb indicates that the Ferrari was later imported to the United States and federalized by the famous Shelton Ferrari dealership in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle Report, with its initial entry taking place on 21 November 1991, shows that the Ferrari was titled in Indiana showing a mere 195 kilometers at the time.

While the Boxer's second owner remains undocumented, it's clear they drove the car sparingly, with just 8,865 kilometers traveled by July 2005 when it was serviced by Lake Forest Sportscars in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The car was then purchased in May 2007 by Canadian collector Carl DiNardo showing 9,962 kilometers and relocated to his stable in London, Ontario, where it resided alongside numerous other important Ferraris. It should be noted that during DiNardo's ownership, the original 320-kph speedometer face plate was exchanged for a 200-mph unit, while the original odometer mechanicals were left unaltered and continued to record in kilometers. A correct 320-kph speedometer face is included in the sale should the new owner wish to return it to its original configuration. In October 2016, the Boxer assumed new Indiana-based ownership with 10,319 kilometers. Around this time, the car was recognized for its remarkable originality with a Ferrari Club of America Gold Award, with documentation noting the car to retain its original Rosso Corsa upper body finish, Cromodora alloy center-lock wheels, and Nero leather interior, while wearing European-specification bumpers.

Chassis 43937 then joined the current owner in March 2018, and has since undergone extensive, well-documented service work to ensure smooth running and restore the car to its factory specifications. This work began almost immediately in April 2018, when Ferrari of Central Florida commenced an engine-out, major service that included replacing the timing belts, tensioner bearings, and various seals and hoses. The transmission was removed, inspected, and sent to the specialists at Classic Coach Repair Inc. in New Jersey for a complete rebuild. The clutch assembly and master cylinder were also replaced during this process. Additional maintenance included replacing all brake lines and performing a brake system overhaul, along with rebuilding the radiator. Invoices for this comprehensive service amounted to $50,999.47 in total.

Ferrari Central Florida resumed work on chassis 43937 in March of 2019 with the installation of a new clutch slave cylinder, aftermarket Classic Car Performance high torque starter (original included), and rear main seal to address a seepage. This service also included inspecting the Boxer for Ferrari Classiche certification which was ultimately issued in August 2019. Its Classiche Red Book, which accompanies the car, notes that the chassis, Tipo F110 A engine (serial number 00333), Tipo F102 CB transmission (serial number 327), and body are the original, matching-numbers components corresponding with factory records. Securing this coveted certification necessitated restoring numerous other items to factory specifications throughout 2019. These included installing the correct front bumper lights, side marker lights, and tail lights, correct Italian seat belts and warning lights, and installing a correct Pioneer tri-band cassette stereo. Other minor items included repairing the speed sensor, installing a new clock, and reconditioning the interior leather.

The Ferrari continued to receive regular annual services at Ferrari Central Florida over the next several years in January 2021, April 2022, and July 2023 which also included a braking system overhaul. The brake work was extensive, involving the replacement of all four brake pads, rotors, and zinc-plating the calipers. Most recently, from December 2023 to February 2024, the car received a second major engine-out timing belt service at 13,434 kilometers. In addition to replacing the timing components, bearings, and numerous gaskets, the technicians also performed extensive cooling system work, including replacing the coolant expansion tank, installing new coolant hoses, and rebuilding the water pump. For improved reliability, a Permatune ignition coil with an OEM-like shell and hardware was installed (original included). As part of the current owner's enduring effort to return the Ferrari to its factory specification, the technicians removed previously added fuel tank vent pipes and restored them to European specification. The total cost for this comprehensive service work came to $29,659.50.

The extraordinary level of care this 512 BBi has received in its seven years of current ownership is demonstrated by extensive invoices on file and available for review, exceeding $118,000 invested. The high standard of the work performed and its owner's thoughtful approach to restoring its factory specifications is also evidenced by its exhibition at the 2024 Amelia Island Conours d'Elegance. It is now classically presented in Rosso Corsa with Nero-finished boxer lower bodywork, showing just 13,606 original kilometers, or approximately 8,454 miles. Adorning its Nero leather interior is a gated shifter, its original Pioneer graphic equalizer and speakers, and a correct Nardi leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel framing Veglia instrumentation. Desirably, trimming the door panel inserts and the headliner is uncommon light grey wool upholstery. The exterior retains a similarly exceptional and factory-correct presentation, including its Vitaloni side-view mirrors, center-lock Cromodora wheels with chromed triple-ear knock-off hubs, Michelin TRX tires, and European specification front and rear bumpers.

Chassis 43937 is a Classiche Certified, fully sorted example of an important model that linked Ferrari's front-engined GT era to their new generation of mid-engine, flat-twelve road cars. The last of the hand-built Prancing Horses, this 512 BBi is completed with its original books in their proper folio, tool roll, jack kit, spare, Classiche Red Book, a copy of Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer: The Road and Race Legends by Nathan Beehl, and numerous original and spare parts (ignition coil, starter, plug wires, spare Merino wool). This exquisite Berlinetta is destined to grace the most prestigious concours events and FCA gatherings and be unleashed on the open road.
