The 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix marked a strong finish to a challenging season for Button and McLaren, with Button driving superbly in variable conditions to secure fourth place, delivering the team's best result of the year. Following the event, the wing was presented to long-serving McLaren employee Roy Reader as a retirement gift, recognising his decades of service to the team. It was later acquired directly from Reader by the consignor in 2023.
